| Why A Cloud of Outrageous Blue Is Worth Your Time

A Cloud of Outrageous Blue by Vesper Stamper is worth your time because it is a unique YA story. Set in 1348, a year I have never seen written in a fantastical sort of way, something beautiful has been created.

A Cloud of Outrageous Blue is an easy read and one I believe is worth your time. It creates a sense of transformation within you as you read about Edyth and her journey in the priory. You get to discover the potential of what one individual can do during a pandemic (no relevance to today... noooo, definitely not). You are presented with a slightly simple plot but combined with the use of colour, random illustrations to depict emotions, and a fabulous ending, this novel is worth a read.

| Plot Progression

A Cloud of Outrageous Blue is set during 1348 with the Great Plague looming. It is a story of discovery and again, the importance of one individual.

I appreciated the plot and it is one that will grow and grow on you until you cannot stop. It contains a slow build and is a delight at the end to discover how enjoyable the plot was.

| Characters

Edyth is the focus of the story with supporting characters in the other women and Mason, her old neighbour and lover who has lucked his way into a job at the priory. Edyth is vibrant. She is a character worth that statement and one worth reading.

| Ending

A Cloud of Outrageous Blue finishes in a way that will make you feel emotions. It is an ending that evokes a moment of reflection and worthy of discussion.

WARNING: Skip My Thoughts for a spoiler free review.

I started A Cloud of Outrageous Blue and thought, this is most likely going to be a DNF. I am always frustrated by text that switches fonts to indicate flashbacks. It is a pet peeve of mine and when I started seeing multiple font changes, I got scared. It was too many!!

But, I pushed past that and began to feel the empowerment of the story. Here was this woman living in 1348 that could feel and see things others couldn't. I felt Edyth was an empath and colour represented her emotions. I grew to value Edyth as a character as she was loyal and determined, a woman I could be friends with.

Her ability to see these luscious shades of colour and use her magic to prevent the Great Plague, even if only a few individuals as the ending was ambiguous on if she saved only the town or the whole country, but her use of it delighted me and then the ending disheartened me. It was unexpected and beautiful. I cried, I did.

A wonderful and illustrative novel the I recommend to all especially those looking to gift something unique to a friend.
