Bronwyn is the brains. Addy is the beauty. Nate is the criminal. Cooper is the athlete. Simon is the outcast. Five individuals all stuck together in detention with nothing in common, a typical afternoon at Bayview High except only four leave detention alive.

Despite his role as outcast, Simon is the creator and face of the school's most popular gossip app with next day's release focused on his four detention buddies. A release with secrets that would ruin all of them. How far would one go to keep a secret, a secret?

| Why One of Us Is Lying Is Worth Your Time

One of Us Is Lying is a novel where Gossip Girl meets the Breakfast Club. It combines high school stereotypes, events and attitudes emulated in the Breakfast Club with the drama and expose nature of Gossip Girl.

This is a recommended read because it is fun. One of Us Is Lying is easy to devour and will have you thinking very little afterwards about the plot or characters. It is a book ideal for the beach and for anybody looking for some more crime aspects in a stereotypical YA novel about high school.

| Plot Progression

The POV of the plot twists between the four main characters, or suspects, one could say and the implications of their involvement in Simon's death. One of Us Is Lying is told over a span of less than a few months and is a whirlwind of a ride as you, along with the suspects, try to find the killer. The question is, is one of them lying?

| Characters

The characters in One of Us Is Lying are stock characters. Yes, they all have unique personalities but they were created to fit a specific mould within the story. They are characters with backgrounds you have seen played out countless times in novels and on-screen but they are still fun to read regardless.

Bronwyn probably has the most representation in the story followed equally by Nate and Cooper's and lastly Addy. That is how I felt the distribution was in regards to voice and does not leave you with questions. It is clear that to progress the story, certain voices over others had to be told more. It is a little bit of each that makes One of Us Is Lying a fun read as you get to see the perspectives of each of the suspects and with them, find out who is lying.

| Ending

For the first time EVER I predicted an ending without the ending being glaringly obvious. I am so proud of myself.

If you are able to follow in my footsteps (probably, not hard to do so) and guess the ending, this is not a novel where that matters. The whole premise of the book is to just have a little bit of enjoyment and fun and is why this easy breezy novel is worth your time.

| My Thoughts

WARNING: Skip My Thoughts for a spoiler free review.

Every time I picked up this novel my mind would jump to the lyrics from the song "One Of Us" by ABBA. "One of us is lying, one of us is crying..." and I still can't get it out of my head. It is a great song but one I now associate with this novel.

The title should have been All of Us Are Lying instead of One of Us Is Lying because then I would have never thought of those ABBA lyrics and the title would be more fitting. Because guess what, all of them were lying.

This novel was a light and breezy read. I truly had fun reading it and am so shocked I suspected the actual culprit because I thought to myself when reading this, "Why would a heartbroken and controlling boyfriend want to meet up with his cheating ex if for no other reason to glean information from her?" AND I WAS RIGHT!!

I cannot believe I was right and as the ending drew closer, I was so shook that I guessed it that early on and turned out to be right. The guessability did not deter the ending for me and I have already requested the sequel from the library.

One of Us Is Lying is a splendid novel to read for all ages combing ease of prose, cliché characters that were still enjoyable, and has an overall vibe that will make you smile. Great novel, I can't wait for the next one.
