Seventeen years ago, the water turned neon green and Nora has been fighting for justice since. All she needs to prove Belsum Chemicals poisoned their water supply is the smoking gun hidden among the thousands of  bureaucratic files.

Her three daughters; Mab, Monday, and Mirabel have watched since birth the fight for justice and in a small town where everybody knows everybody, the Mitchell triplets and their mother are loved. Nothing changes in their small town until the day a moving truck arrives, the first any resident has seen in years bringing with it new residents and old secrets.

Secrets that benefit the triplets who are soon joining the fight and taking on Belsum. It's time they found justice for their town, themselves, and their mother.  If the past won't let go, they're going to cut it off.

| Why One Two Three Is Worth Your Time

One Two Three by Laurie Frankel is a novel worth reading. Why? Because it is a fictitious portrayal about the terrible reality of corporations polluting and poisoning small towns. This is a novel with fighters and protagonists worth rooting for; it is this fight that makes this novel worth an hour of your time.

| Plot Progression

Seventeen years ago, Belsum Chemicals turned the water fluorescent green. Seventeen years ago, individuals in Bourne began to experience higher rates of illness and congenital anomalies. Seventeen years ago, Belsum shut down claiming their factory had done nothing to the water and that ingestion of their chemicals in small amounts was safe and yet, everybody stopped drinking the water supply. Nora has been at the forefront of the fight against Belsum since their closure whilst raising her three triplets - Mab, Monday, and Mirabel.

It is a futile fight as the evidence they are looking for is nestled away among thousands of documents but when news of the factory's reopening is heard around town, the fight must pick up again. And this time, it is up to the Mitchell triplets to bring Belsum down.

Is the plot worth reading? Yes. It is straightforward but still engaging and filled with a strong narrative. One Two Three is an enjoyable read but it truly is the characters who are worth your time.

| Characters

These characters will make the story. Mab is One, the first born and only non-disabled sibling. She is the one whose future is riding on escaping the town, not because she craves too but because she can. Monday is Two, the second born who adores yellow, exhibits autistic traits, and is the librarian of the town except, the Bourne library resides within their home. Mirabel is Three, the third born born physically disabled and non-verbal and who uses the Voice on her wheelchair to communicate with others. She is the smartest of the three and potentially the smartest in the whole town but struggles articulating her thoughts with her Voice.

Their mother Nora lost her husband and their father from cancer, cancer he did not have before working at Belsum Chemicals. Nora has a fighting spirit and adores the community she lives in. She has been the leader against Belsum Chemicals and is a mother I think anyone would appreciate having.

That is the Mitchell family this novel surrounds itself with. The story though is only told from Mab, Monday, and Mirabel's point of view and truly, they are great characters. All three have different views on life and the case with Belsum; how they fight demonstrates their different strengths and makes them a triplet powerhouse both before and during the fight. These characters have depth and a fighting spirit, they make this novel and are why this is worth an hour of your time.

| Ending

100% the perfect ending for me. If you want a novel with a conclusive ending, this is the novel to choose. Not only will it provide a satisfactory ending, it will also provide you with a sense of contentment upon finishing as truly, it is a good story that is written well. What more could you want in a fiction novel?

| My Thoughts

WARNING: Skip My Thoughts for a spoiler free review.

One Two Three was a delightful fiction novel. It contained complex characters, a compelling plot, and a straightforward concept that made it easy to know who to root for. It encapsulated everything I want in a fiction novel and I think I will be reaching for other Laurie Frank novel's after this. There was nothing truly complex plot wise, I knew the three siblings would figure out how to take down Belsum and finish the fight their mother started and is why the characters had to be damn good to allow for a straightforward plot.

I adored Mab, Monday, and Mirabel. I also loved how the author gave them different syllables which helped me initially identify  who was who. They had different ideologies and frustrations, they were written as three individuals, not a fusion of the three which I was afraid of might happen due to the closeness of the triplets but it didn't, so I read great characters and that was that. Even if River was a little butt head, he still was critical to the plot (but still a butt head).

I found this novel demonstrated head-on what chemical run-off does in a logical but charming way, as in the characters were charming, not the pollution or consequences of said pollution. Chemical run-off is not good. What?!? Who could have guessed and this type of story is reality for thousands of small communities - google fracking if you don't believe me for a different type of run-off issue. These types of coverups and denial are real and One Two Three portrayed the small town fight and effect of corporations destroying a community because of the "not my problem," and "they're too stupid to notice," syndrome.

I have read and watched too many fracking videos depicting these scenarios and to me, this novel was the embodiment of real life. I think this allowed for a deeper compassion from me as a reader and is why I found this to be a highly valued read compared to other readers. I think One Two Three is worth your time and a solid read overall.
