A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman is a novel guaranteed to warm your heart.

Ove, a curmudgeon one may say, has based his life on strong principles, specific ideologies, and has an exact way of looking at things. The neighbours call Ove bitter but Ove does not believe that to be so - he just is who he is and that is a man called Ove.

On a comfortably cranky day, Ove's life is turned upside down when a chatty couple with two adorable children move in next door and decide through an unlikely turn of events, that Ove is their friend. This friendship changes Ove rippling outwards like a wave becoming a journey that will take you on a bittersweet and memorable ride.

| Why A Man Called Ove Is Worth Your Time

A Man Called Ove is worth your time as this novel is heartwarming, bittersweet, and everything you need in a story about an old curmudgeon.

It is an easy read that will make you appreciate friendship, love, determination and the mundaneness that is life. A Man Called Ove is the ideal novel to curl up into and let yourself be reminded what it is to be human and the love that humans have for one another.

It is a beautiful novel and one I highly recommend you read.

| Plot Progression

There is a simplicity to the plot of A Man Called Ove, one that takes you on a melodious journey. It is a simple plot that you will be comforted by. Not much else to say.

| Characters

Ove is a grumpy old man. His life has both beauty and pain and through the novel, you figure out how this combination make Ove into who he is. You get snippets of other characters like his wife Sonja and the new neighbour Parvenah and their impact on Ove. Backman does a superb job creating Ove; a seriously grumpy man who cares deeply and indirectly. His neighbours transformed him and his actions transformed them.

The characters are exactly what you expect and that is wonderful. No surprises, no exhaustion and I give them a 10/10.

| Ending

You may guess the ending reading the summary/blurb of A Man Called Ove and if you have, I say still read this novel. This type of story is more about the journey you get to join of the man called Ove. A journey that is comforting to go on.

The ending is slightly predictable and can be easily guessed ... I mean I guessed it and I'm terrible at noticing signals but that does not take away from this novel or the ending.

This is a satisfying novel so even if you guess the plot, I say still read A Man Called Ove.

I was searching for a feel good novel and I found that in A Man Called Ove. It's the sort of novel you read that elicit's a bittersweet feeling upon finishing.

I knew from he beginning that the novel ended with what Ove's original goal in the beginning was - his death. But instead of dying shrouded in incomprehensible sadness, he died shrouded in love. He touched everyone's heart as only a particular type of grumpy old man can do, and made their lives better. The whole premise of this novel was that Ove is Ove and though surly on the outside, cared for those around him and they cared for him. Oh, my heart.

For Ove to marry someone like Sonja, a vibrant and emotive woman who brought that with her when she married Ove, clearly Ove had that in himself, only expressed differently. He too, was colourful.

I expected this novel to be about a curmudgeon who cared for others and changed for the better because of others and that's exactly what I got.

This isn't a suspenseful novel but one instead created to fill you with warmth and the belief that kindness can lead you out of the dark.

A Man Called Ove is a sweet and wonderful read, and I am very glad I read it.
