Tru Beck from Pennsylvania lives trapped in the folds of space, where "time" has frozen. Here, humans have created a new system of measuring time and Tru lives in box #7, close to box #1 that contains a curious switch. A switch that nobody knows what it does.

Despite the insanity, this is Tru's life and the only thing she currently cares about is how far she can throw a javelin, definitely not the switch inside box #1.

| Why Switch Is Not Worth Your Time

I didn't get it? And based on that, I cannot recommend a book I did not understand or recognise that it was okay I did not understand. I am not certain what type of atmosphere this novel was trying to create but I absolutely missed it.

If you decide to read Switch, note there is a bit of confusing dialogue with continuous I am mad / my pain is here / there is no time left to hurt slashes to indicate multiple thoughts occurring simultaneously and initially they are cool but overtime, they are a bit tiring to dissect. If that is up your alley, then you may enjoy this novel.

I feel there are stronger novels out there which I recommend reaching for before reaching for Switch as despite its intriguing plot, it could fall flat.

| Plot Progression

I still do not understand. The plot in Switch is about how time has stopped and Tru is living in a continuously shifting house and who has recently discovered she can throw a javelin far, very very far.

The plot revolves around how Tru believes she has the key to restarting time and how time is a bigger factor than we think. This premise is why I picked up Switch and if you are interested in that concept and recognise that this is different, this would suit your reading style. Otherwise, you may be left feeling baffled like I was with the plot.

| Characters

They are unusual? I couldn't figure out if they were good or bad morally speaking. The characters are written well and an aspect of this novel worth your time due to their ambiguity. This ambiguity helps push the concept of confusion in which Switch is founded upon and is why they are enjoyable to read.

| My Thoughts

WARNING: Skip My Thoughts for a spoiler free review.

Is it necessary to reiterate how confused I was? At the beginning, I vibed with the slashes. I found the concept to be true to how humans think, our responses are not always linear, but then it evolved into slashes that repeated the same thing in a different phrase and I was done.

I do not know if I am missing the picture but as a reader, if I am not able to pick up on enough clues or at least be surprised in a good way upon finishing, then the point was not made clear enough or written to intrigue. It detracted from the enjoyment of the story because there was no conclusion to the stupid time paradox. I thought time had stopped because of Tru's tumultuous family life and - it did? But it didn't? Only her and her Dad possess the ability to stop time and have a switch to do so? I am confused.

I am confused if Richard was a predator or not. I am confused who the sister was and why she was even relevant to the story. I am confused as to why Carmichael stayed at the house for so long. I am confused by the time stopping and starting again. The only thing I was not confused about was the human drive to reconstruct time and then make it a problem. Yep, that is human.

Switch is an interesting novel that I do not recommend because it leaves you with more confusion than enjoyment and I read books to find contentment, not frustrating confusion.
