A group of strangers are taken hostage when a failed bank robber stumbles accidentally in during an apartment open house. Those at the hostage's mercy are: an elderly couple, a wealthy banker, one mysterious man, a couple with a baby on the way, the real-estate agent, and one individual who could care less that a gun is being pointed at them.

All carry a lifetime of pain, secrets, and emotions thinly veiled underneath their demeanor. As media frenzy increases and the emotional turmoil begins to heighten, secrets are revealed to cause a chain of events in which none of them can explain what happened next.

| Why Anxious People Is Worth Your Time

With another best-seller, Fredrik Backman does it again. What has he done again? Oh yes, write an awesome novel. If you are intrigued by Anxious People but skeptical of the hype, there is no need to fret. This is a great novel and one worth your time.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman is a popular 2020 novel that evokes emotions of true humanity, creates captivating moments, and will throw you off base multiple times. Just like A Man Called OveBackman has created another story in Anxious People worth enjoying.

What you will like about his works is that he writes sweet stories and what is awesome about this novel if you have read A Man Called Ove (I am still working on his other pieces, give me time please!) is that Anxious People is so stylistically different in the dialect, descriptive writing, and more that you feel you are reading two different authors. This ability to create vastly different things but still replicate similar emotions is another reason why you should read his works and I am eager to see if different writing styles are portrayed in his other pieces.

There are only pro's for Anxious People so yes, this novel is worth the hype and one to worth an hour.

| Plot Progression

It is a good plot. Going between police interviews and the hostage situation, a story is created intertwining these anxious people's lives together leading towards an ultimate goal that you'll discover when reading Anxious People. This novel has a great plot with intrigue and a plot that you will want to reread to figure out all the subtext you missed because trust me, this plot is so rich in detail, you will discover new things each time you read it.

| Characters

The characters soar in Anxious People. In this novel you are provided the opportunity to see the hostage situation and aftermath from multiple perspectives gleaning insight into who the hostages, bank robber, and policemen are. They are all so unique with one thing in common - they are anxious people.

As the plot continues, relationships and coincidences are revealed bringing the characters closer together and creating something wonderful.

I loved these characters. I think you will too.

| Ending

The ending may require a second read. The last couple of pages are written elusively and it is up to you as a reader to figure out what happened. I mean, you will figure it out but it may take a second read (looking at myself here). Overall, Anxious People has a strong ending and is worth checking out.

| My Thoughts

WARNING: Skip My Thoughts for a spoiler free review.

Like I said, Backman does it again with Anxious People. It is a comforting novel and one that brought me joy. I felt emulated in the characters, how they perceived humanity really resonated with me. The mentality that none of us truly know what we are doing or how or why is shown in these characters and I am glad. I felt that. The only thing we can do is continue to push forward and recognise that as long as we try our best, life will be what it is.

I think all the characters recognised that truth because of the hostage situation, even the bank robber. Humanity is anxiety inducing and fear of failure is a true thing and I do feel that within this novel we were granted the opportunity to see that fear voiced allowing us to realise that our fear is valid. We need to utilise that fear in a healthy way and that is typically by be being open, loving, and willing to change.

I liked Anxious People. I like A Man Called Ove much much more but this was a solid read. Very good and luckily one that did not make me anxious but instead left me feeling content.
